We are embarking on this trip for cultural reasons. Fianna Fáil is at its heart, a Republican Party and also a member of LYMEC (The European Liberal Youth), which means we have contacts with sister parties all around the European continent. This includes the JNC party, who are kindly inviting us on this trip, and facilitating our tours of government buildings and meetings with politicians.
We feel this trip will help our society members to expand their cultural awareness, especially in areas like understanding regional identity, Language, civic traditions and how other politically active youths in Catalonia express national identity without full statehood.
Thanks to our international connections, we have an exciting coterie of speakers who have worked toward international recognition of Catalan identity, and could teach us a lot about how they express their beliefs and aims.
We will be attending both the National and local parliaments on this trip as well as visiting Universitat Pompeu Fabra for a discussion on “Nationalism in a Globalized World: The Catalan Case in Comparative Perspective”.
