About Our Society

Founded over 170 years ago, as old as the university itself, the Literary and Historical Society is UCD’s debating union and the heart of student life on campus. Our activities include exciting weekly House Debates in the Fitzgerald Chamber, unforgettable socials, and international competitive debating where our members represent UCD across the globe. The L&H is also home to the prestigious James Joyce Award, the highest honour a student body can confer in Ireland. Past recipients include Stephen Fry, Danny Boyle and Will Ferrell!

Fun and Games at the L&H House Debates

Find us at our Freshers’ Stand from the 15th–19th of September and sign up to join the action, meet incredible people, and grab exclusive offers – plus a free goodie bag!
