About Us

UCD Societies

You’ll find all the information you need to know about each of the student societies that UCD has to offer. A visit to our website, which includes a dedicated events calendar, will keep you up to date with all of our society activities throughout the year.

Student Centered

UCD student societies are all student-centered: run by students for students, supported by values of democracy, inclusiveness, citizenship and social awareness.

80+ Societies

With over 80 recognised student societies, UCD has something for everyone. Being involved in student life is a great way to make friends, develop your skills and help make the UCD community the welcoming, inclusive and supportive place it is. You can join any of our student societies throughout the year by attending their events and getting in touch.

Here to help!

The university experience is all about getting involved and getting active, trying something new, having fun and making some great friends and memories along the way. We’re here to help you develop and apply the skills and knowledge you learn inside the classroom, and to help you realise your full potential.

introducing our UCD Societies Council

This website was created on behalf of the interests of student societies by the UCD Societies Council.

The UCD Societies Council is the representative body for the interests of all student societies in UCD since the start of the 1992 academic term. Formed following the establishment of the Student Consultative Forum by the Governing Body of the College in 1989, it has a current membership of over 80 recognised societies, and is responsible for the allocation of funding and grants to each society, providing support and assistance to the officers of each society in carrying out their duties, and oversight of all society activities. Student interests are represented throughout the University’s various structures, by the officers of the Societies Council, in conjunction with the officers of the Students’ Union and the Athletic Union Council.

The chief officer of the Societies Council is the Chair, who is independent of any particular society during their term. The Chair of the Societies Council is a current, or recently graduated, student from the undergraduate student body. They work closely with the University and its community to support, develop and advocate for society life in general, and promote the work of the recognised student societies to the campus community.
