If you are looking for a way to make new friends through events that are active, social and fun Dance Society is for you!
UCD Dance Society was restarted in 2011, and has since been one of the most active societies on campus. We host classes in a variety of styles and levels, meaning from complete beginners to advanced dancers we have something for everyone!
We host weekly drop-in classes. The style, level and time of which alternate every week. Our classes are only €2 each!
We also have 6/8 week courses, in which you work on the same choreography with the same group of people and perform it at our end-of-semester showcase. Our courses are a great way to make friends and get to know other members!
For advanced dancers, we have competitive crews: Hip-Hop, Irish Dancing and Fusion (contemporary and jazz) all rehearse twice a week, perform at our end-of-semester showcases (along with other events) and compete at national Intervarsities. At which they have been exceptionally successful. Last year each of our crews placed: 1st in Jazz, 2nd in Contemporary, 2nd in Hip-Hop and 3rd in Irish.
In 2022, UCD had the privilege of hosting this event which was later awarded Event of the Year at the UCD Society of the Year Awards. Our crews competed as well as acting as volunteers over the Intervaristites weekend, with our Jazz crew being awarded 1st, and our Hip Hop crew 2nd and receiving the Special Performer Award!
We also host regular social events such as pub quizzes and nights out. And “Danceoff”-in which other societies are taught dances and compete against each other to raise money for their chosen charities and “Danceathon”-12 hours straight of dance classes, also in aid of charity.
We have been lucky enough to perform at Perform Ireland 2018, the GradIreland Graduate Recruitment Awards in the Mansion House, Dublin, Electric Picnic in both 2018 and 2019 and Her Sport Awards in 2024.
