Dearest book lovers,
Welcome to the English and Literary Society – also known as Litsoc. We have everything you need right at your fingertips (for the small price of your soul, of course). Our Afternoon Teas or Coffee Mornings – trust us, you’re going to need those – are the best (and only) source for the latest gossip about your favourite misunderstood literary villain (like they only killed 20 people; it’s not that big of a deal). For more drama – because we know you love it – join our writing workshops. Don’t Talk about Write Club is the perfect setting to channel your inner Shakespeare or Gossip Girl, whichever you prefer. And do not worry – while we do like gossip, your works are shared under an oath of secrecy. Our Writers Bloc will help you get inspired with prompts and games. There is even a rumour that you might make it into our very own biannual, award-winning literary magazine, Caveat Lector, which features UCD’s finest written works. Furthermore, who would we be as an English and Literary Society if we didn’t have a monthly book club, offering you the chance to swoon over your newest fictional crush and a shoulder to cry on over the death of your favourite character? (Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.) Occasional bookshop crawls help you fill your bookcase – don’t let anyone tell you that you have enough books; your TBR list remains our secret. Finally, this just in: collaborations with other societies are in the works, and it’s going to be very exciting!
